This may happen because of a temporary boost in demand for your services or it may be due to your full-time employees taking vacation. What Is A Temporary Employee?

A temporary employee, usually referred to as a "temp", may be hired either directly or they can be obtained using a staffing agency. If the latter is the case, the employee is an employee of the staffing agency, not of the business who uses their services. The services that they may provide are varied, and can include labor, technology, healthcare, clerical and education. Perhaps you have a need for a specific service at your business, and a temporary employee can fill that need.

 

A temporary employee may either be on staff full-time or part-time for the duration of their employment. They may not be eligible for most company benefits, such as vacation pay or health benefits but there are certain benefits that are required by law. This would include unemployment and workers compensation benefits, among others.

In the state of California, it is also necessary to understand the laws associated with paying temporary workers. One of the factors that need to be considered is the minimum wage, which is currently $10 per hour in CA, the third highest minimum wage in the United States.

The timing of paying temporary workers also needs to be considered carefully. Under California law, workers must be paid at least twice during each calendar month but there are some exceptions to the rule.

 

Options For Hiring Temporary Employees 

You can remove the headaches of hiring by using a temporary staffing agency, as they will be responsible for paying the employee and taking care of any necessary benefits that may be due to them. In addition, a staffing agency will take care of the interviews and they can often place somebody quickly and effectively.
